Alex Scott and Jill Scott are two people that are synonymous with women’s football legacies. They act as inspirations to so many in this country and beyond, having both won countless club trophies and been at the forefront of changing international women’s football in this country.
However, both of these ballers are now venturing into a world beyond football; ask anyone walking down the street now what the two Scott’s are known for, the answers could well surprise a few. The pair remain working in sports but now their work stretches beyond the pitch.
Jill Scott has become a household name on The Overlap and League of their Own – both airing on Sky. The former England international also appeared on I’m a Celebrity Get Me out of Here – winning the 2022 version of the show in a move that had seen a female footballer, thrust into the limelight of prime time television for the first time.
Now Alex Scott, who regularly heads up The One Show and starred in Mission Survive, Who Do You Think You Are and Strictly Come Dancing, is heading into the jungle.
I’m A Celebrity is one of the longest running reality programmes in the UK and shows twelve celebrities taken to the jungle where they live a stripped back lifestyle and have to win stars in order to earn food.
During Jill’s run on the show, she endeared herself to the hearts of the nation which saw her eventually crowned ‘Queen of the Jungle’. In her series that contained Matt Hancock, Sean Walsh, Mike Tindall and more, stories about the Lionesses Euros triumph of that year filled the air time in between trials and challenges.
This time around, Alex is being joined by names such as Martin Kemp, Aitch, Angry Ginge and Kelly Brook in the three week show that is one of the most viewed UK television programmes.
Undoubtedly, the programme will catapult Alex to a whole new audience, something that is bound to send her career to new heights. Conversations surrounding sport and football are likely to arise with Alex in the camp, highlighting women’s football and placing it at the front of viewers’ minds.
What all of this means is that women’s footballers are finally getting the recognition and space they deserve. Sending Alex to the jungle allows her, and the whole of the women’s game, to be seen by an entirely new audience.
Reality television is not the only way that women’s footballers are going mainstream, now ballers are appearing on the side of crisp packets, in adverts, and on major podcasts and game shows. These moves get people talking, they begin to remember names and stories and explore women’s football.
Alex, one of the game’s most celebrated stars, appearing on I’m A Celebrity will give her a chance to tell authentic and raw stories while emphasising all that women’s football has to offer.
You can watch all the action every night at 9pm on ITV1 in the UK.
