If you think of footballers whose stories inspire countless people, overcoming adversity, then Tottenham’s Molly Bartrip is pretty near the top of the list.
A player who has thrived at the top level in the WSL season after season, yet has openly documented her struggles with anxiety, depression and an eating disorder, hoping that by voicing the obstacles she has faced she can help others going through similar challenges.
Her latest off the pitch chapter shows once again her unwavering commitment to support people away from the football pitch; her new website Mindball.
Mindball is for people of ages 12 and above and focuses on a mental wellbeing and mindset performance programme, ensuring that people in schools, clubs and academies understand the importance of mentality and how it’s linked to sustained performance. Mindball also caters to the needs of specific clubs and organisations with two ways of delivering its work.
MindBall Foundation Workshop
A single interactive session introducing the MindBall mindset framework.
MindBall Programme Workshop
A structured six-session programme further developing understanding of how mindset affects performance.
Plenty of reasons explain why MindBall is suited to the people it targets, offering a full-scale approach to integrating mental wellbeing and mindfulness into performance.
The programme helps improve confidence and build mindset, which in turn will help better performances in games, with a key quote on the Mindball website summing up perfectly the ambition of the new programme.
“When we learn to manage our emotions and behaviours both performance and wellbeing improve.”
The Mindball Model
The topic of a business model helps clearly outline the overall goal of a business, and at Bartrip’s new venture, that goal is as clear as day.
The frameworks allow the players to implement it instantly and not just on the training pitch, it can also be applied on matchdays and in everyday life too. The MindBall model is built on four corners that intertwine together: identity, performance, awareness and stability, all designed to strengthen performance and wellbeing at the same time.
The Fan View
We spoke with women’s football journalist and Tottenham Hotspur fan, Charlotte Davey, who was only too happy to share another positive opinion of Molly from within the women’s football world.
“I’ve always been inspired by Molly Bartrip and her initiatives focused on creating awareness and support for Mental Health. As a footballer, she uses her own experiences and career as a platform to inspire and build a better future for others, which is something truly special. Molly is a positive role model and I think we need more people like her in the women’s football space.”
Overall, Molly Bartrip’s new venture connects the dots in a way seemingly only she can do, marking yet another step forward in helping the next generation.
