Ahead of the new Barclays Women’s Super League season, Liverpool forward Mia Enderby reflects on her pre season journey so far, lessons from her previous seasons in football, and looks ahead to the ambitions and challenges that await.
With the 26/27 season edging closer, Liverpool Women are now entering their final stages of pre season, with preparations now turning towards the competitive campaign ahead.
For Mia Enderby, the new season presents another opportunity to continue her development at Liverpool, as she looks to build on her WSL experience.
During our conversation, the Liverpool forward reflected on her own preparations for the season ahead, outlined the new ambitions of the squad, as well as what she believes Liverpool Women have learned from last year’s campaign.
Pre-season hasn’t been the easiest for Enderby, who admits that the process has been ‘really hard’, but believes that ‘hard work always pays off.’
Currently working her way back from injury, it’s been a frustrating period for the forward, particularly with the new season fast approaching. With a personal goal of getting fit and ready for the new 26/27 campaign, she continues to put the work in away from the pitch.
“I’m in the gym and doing what I need to do to get ready for the season,” she explained.
Despite the setback, Enderby remains focused on her road to recovery and is determined to return to the pitch, ready for the challenges ahead.
Her recovery is an important part of her preparations for the remainder of pre-season, as she works towards returning to full fitness and being ready to contribute to the team.
When asked about how the team’s previous experiences have shaped the preparations for the season ahead, one of the biggest lessons from last season that Enderby spoke about was the importance of physical preparation, particularly when facing the league’s strongest teams, something that she aims to work on this season.
“I would definitely say the fitness as a team.”
“When playing the top three clubs you can see the difference in physicality.”
The experience so far in the Women’s Super League appears to have shaped Liverpool’s approach to pre-season, with the squad placing a strong emphasis on their physical condition in order to compete with the top teams and make a real statement this season.
Liverpool have also strengthened their squad with a number of new signings ahead of the new campaign, bringing fresh competition and quality to the team.
During the interview, Enderby highlighted the impact that the new arrivals could have on the squad, particularly in attacking positions.
One new signing who has caught her attention during this pre season period is Vivien Endemann, with the forward praising the winger’s pace and attacking qualities.
“She’s exciting, she’s a winger, she’s fast, so I feel that the fans will definitely look forward to watching her.”
Endemann’s pace could provide another level to Liverpool’s attack, while Enderby believes the wider group of new arrivals could also bring greater energy and a different dynamic to the squad than we have seen before.
“I’d definitely say they would change the team’s dynamic, in sort of like the fiery sort of thing, I think [they’ll provide] more goals.”
As the start of the new campaign draws closer, Enderby stated a clear ambition for herself and her teammates, to enter the season in the best possible physical condition.
“We’ve all been working on trying to get fit to become the fittest team in the WSL.“
For Enderby, that focus on fitness forms an important part of Liverpool’s wider preparations for a season in which they will face a number of strengthened sides.
One fixture in particular that stands out for the forward is Arsenal, who she describes as “a good group and a good team” following their summer recruitment. The fixture also carries a personal significance for Enderby, making it one she is particularly excited about.
“My partner obviously plays for Arsenal so it’s definitely exciting to play against them!”
The fixture against Arsenal will take place on the 7th of November at Anfield stadium, adding a new level of excitement for both the fans and players.
While Liverpool have strengthened their own squad ahead of the new competitive season, Enderby is equally excited to see the changes being made across the rest of the WSL teams.
When asked what she is most looking forward to about the 26/27 campaign, the forward highlighted the opportunity to face teams that have brought in a number of new high level players.
“Playing against the different teams [excites me the most] because they’ve made a lot of new signings.”
London City Lionesses are one side in particular that have caught her attention, following their addition of Alexia Putellas, with Enderby describing the signing as “crazy.”
The arrival of new players across the league will also give Enderby the opportunity to come up against different styles of play, adding to the excitement for both players and fans ahead of the new season.
Her excitement reflects the changing landscape of the WSL, with the league’s growing number of new signings, giving players fresh opponents and new challenges to look forward to.
With the WSL expanding to 14 teams for the 26/27 season, Enderby also reflected on what the growth of the league could mean for the women’s game, particularly when it comes to attracting more supporters.
Throughout the discussion, she touched on the impact that the two promoted teams, Birmingham City and Crystal Palace, alongside play off winners Charlton Athletic, could have on the league’s growth and appeal.
“I think it will be important to get more fans in…it’s all very exciting.”
“Everyone just wants to play in front of a big crowd, like it means a lot.”
With the WSL continuing to grow, the expansion provides a great opportunity to attract larger crowds and build greater excitement around the league, something she believes is important for both players and supporters.
For Enderby, the importance of the fans and the impact they can have is something she knows firsthand, with Liverpool’s own supporters playing a huge role in creating an atmosphere around the team.
Reflecting on the role the fans play, she was full of praise for the support they provide on matchdays and throughout the season, especially after a challenging season in the 25/26 campaign.
“The fans are absolutely amazing, they make this football club great.”
That support is particularly noticeable on matchdays, with Enderby highlighting the impact of hearing the crowd get behind the team.
For Enderby, the connection between the players and supporters goes beyond what happens on the pitch, with the team also having the opportunity to inspire the next generation.
As women’s football continues to grow, Enderby recognises the importance of young girls having players they can look up to and see themselves in.
“We all want to be an inspiration for the young girls, so yeah that’s all very exciting.”
Behind Enderby’s journey to the professional game has always been the support of her family, with one person in particular playing a huge role in helping her reach where she is today.
During our conversation, Enderby reflected on the influence her mum has had throughout her journey, highlighting the sacrifices she made to support her ambitions and help her reach the level she is at today.
“She made a lot of sacrifices, she had to work two jobs to be able to get me to training.”
Those sacrifices are something she continues to appreciate.
“I tell her all the time I wouldn’t be where I am without you.”
As Enderby looks ahead to another season in the WSL, her focus extends beyond her own development, with the forward recognising the influence she can have on the next generation.
Having experienced the challenges and sacrifices that have shaped her own journey, she hopes to encourage young girls to remain committed to their dreams and ambitions. She tells them to ‘trust the process‘.
For Enderby, staying true to yourself is just as important as the work you put in on the pitch.
“If you put your mind to it and stay true to who you want to be, then you’ll get there.”
As she prepares for the 2026/27 season and works towards returning from injury, Enderby’s message reflects the mindset she hopes to carry into the new season, one built on determination, patience and belief.
